Will Blower Motor Work If Resistor Is Bad?

If the resistor shorts or fails, it may cause the blower motor to remain stuck on one fan speed. The heating and air conditioning systems may still function at one speed, however the resistor will have to be replaced in order for full functionality to be restored.

What are the symptoms of a bad blower motor relay?

3. Melted relay. Another more serious symptom of a problem with the blower motor relay is a burned or melted relay. Relays are exposed to high current loads and can sometimes get hot when they develop problems.

What causes a blower motor to stop working?

In a situation where the motor doesn’t work on any speed, the most likely causes are: a blown power supply fuse, a bad motor ground connection, bad motor speed control module or a failed motor. On all systems, a failed blower motor is least likely. Blower motors generally don’t fail out of the clear blue.

Where are the resistors on a blower motor?

When fan is on high the circuit bypasses the fan speed resistors and supplies 12 volts to the motor from this relay to the motor directly. That is my understanding from reading and looking at diagram for my 97. Ground it out somewhere else close under the dash.

Why does my blower motor make a squealing noise?

The squealing noise happens most often in the winter during cold startups and may disappear as the motor heats up. If you ignore the noise, the bearing will continue to wear to the point where the motor won’t start at all. The reason I’m not including the motor resistor as a suspect is because it usually only controls the lower speeds.
